weekend adventure

I'm not adventurous. At all. The craziest thing I've ever done is fly to London for two weeks by myself and stay with the brother-in-law of a close friend (who I'd never met)...who also happened to live with tons of others and only had one bathroom! I explored the city during the day all by my lonesome and proved to myself that I could do it. While I returned home more independent I continued to be my normal "nervous nellie" self. I don't like change and tend to live within the comfort of my routine. Which is why this weekend is such a big deal.

Tomorrow I'm flying to a state I've never been (WI) to spend the next three days with these amazing ladies...

It's amazing the friendship I've formed with them through blogging, twitter, and emails. I first met Tracie through her blog and was immediately inspired by her - her faith, love for family, and positive outlook despite a challenging diagnosis of MS. Her words captivated me and after leaving a comment of one of her posts she emailed me back. We continued that way for awhile and before I knew it we were following each others day-to-day comments on Twitter.

It was through Twitter that Tracie introduced me to two of her besties, Heather & Leslie. Soon they were leaving supportive comments on my blog & rooting me on via Twitter. Any time I was having a bad day I knew they'd all send me a sweet shout out. They've each helped me through different challenges and I'm so incredibly thankful for their friendship. I know some people don't trust what you can find via the web but this is real. So real, in fact, that after talking about it for months I finally took a step out of my comfort zone and used miles to book a flight to Wisconsin to spend some face-to-face time with these lovely women.

I figured I'd be overcome with nerves by now but I'm not. Maybe that will happen while I'm traveling tomorrow but right now I'm just crazy excited to see my friends and spend time with them. Lee thinks I'm partly crazy but has been totally supportive. I guess anyone who has never developed a relationship in this unusual fashion would have a hard time understanding but I'm so thankful that he cares enough to be nervous. If he told me that this is something he wanted to do I'm pretty certain I'd tell him that he's nuts.

Blogging really is a small world. I found out several months ago that one of my besties, Sadie, follows Heather's blog and they've bonded over having sons the same age, and just last night I found out that a friend/neighbor of mine follows Tracie's blog and is inspired by "her faith and parenting." Super cool, don't you think?

So here I go, about to step into a situation totally unknown to me and instead of being nervous, I'm excited beyond words! Can't wait to tell you about our crazy fun adventure when I get back! Hope y'all have an awesome weekend of your own.

Eek! Have sooo much fun! As a fellow Wisconsinite, I can guarantee that you'll have a great time here.:) The food is great, and the people are even better.

You're totally right about it being tough to understand friendships that have been developed in a non-traditional manner...unless you personally have gotten to know someone at a distance, it's nearly impossible to grasp how easy it can be done with a blogger-friend who just gets you.

Best of luck!! :)
